We are not the dumbest generation. Like our group said in class, older generations usually hate on younger generations kind of like how high school seniors disliking high school freshman. And to say "Don't trust anyone under 30" is just plain insulting. Sure we don't read as much as we used to and maybe our work ethic isn't as strong as it once was, but to jump to a conclusion that we are the "Dumbest" is just dumb in itself. What we have lost in historical knowledge we have made up for in technological knowledge. We aren't stupid, our priorities have just switched. If we need information we look it up on the internet, it may take five minutes, twenty years ago you had to look it up in a book, which could take hours maybe days. I am a history major and so I know a great deal about history, but for the people who aren't, you're really in no position to judge them. Of course as a history major I am in the position to judge and the people who don't know basic history are making a bad name for our generation. Sure it can be boring, stupid, or useless to you, but we need history so we don't repeat the mistakes of the past. Also reiterating on the "Don't trust anyone under 30" topic; our generation hasn't gotten the chance to prove ourselves. Look at the government, for most positions in high ranking government you need to be over thirty. Please Dr. Bauerlein wait another fifteen years before you judge us so harshly.

I absolutely agree with what you said. He should not judge us, especially if we are under the age of 30 years old. Most of the people that are in Congress or the government are over 30 and look how our society is transforming. It is not good! This generation’s priorities are different from other generations, but that is just the way life goes. Change is what sets us apart from other people. If all generations were the same, we would not be so technology savvy and as innovative as we are now.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you're saying. He is judging us before we are having the chance to prove ourselves in any way. It's just like high school, upperclassmen hate freshmen. Everyone thinks that will be left behind once you get to college but Bauerlein has proved that wrong.
ReplyDeleteDude, right on! I'll tell ya what, it really is easy for the older generations to hate on younger ones but usuaslly its without sufficient evidence. I thought it was great that you addressed the fact that we slack on historical knowledge and I think your stance on that issue is right on...hit the nail right on the head. I like your stance on this one, well said.
ReplyDeleteFor the most part I agree with what you're saying, I think that the author does need to wait a few years before they make the decision to call us the dumbest generation because we are mostly still in school and haven't gotten out into the "real world." maybe in a few years the author can size up what he said and readjust his label of our generation.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you're saying. They have to be a little dumb themselves to say don't trust anyone under 30. I liked how you mentioned the fact that we have a problem with things like work ethic and knowledge of a wide range of things. Looking at it from both points of view was nice.
